PODIATRY

 

Podiatry focuses upon treatments effecting disorders of the foot and ankle. Podiatrists work towards diagnosing and managing a wide range of lower limb disorders including the effects of arthritis. Arthritis often affects the feet, which makes standing and general movement uncomfortable and painful. Podiatrists work towards understanding your personal issues with arthritis and aim to reduce the amount of discomfort suffered.

THE TREATMENT

Your podiatrist will examine the way in which you walk (a gait analysis). This will help understand how your foot functions. A number of things will be assessed such as the foots range of motions, pressure on the foot, forces on the individual joints and the way in which your foot moves to protect against pain. In specific cases orthotic insoles and shoes may be prescribed. Qualified podiatrists may perform basic sugery on minor tissue.
